* Shabbat Dinner. Lorne Mallin hosts a warm and tuneful Shabbat potluck dinner at his Sandy Hill Home on Friday, May 18 at 6:30pm. Lorne hosts these Shabbats on the 3rd Friday of every month. Also, be sure to mark your calendars for Lorne’s monthly Chanting and Chocolate gathering at Temple Israel on Monday, May 28, 7:30-9pm. Join in sacred Hebrew chanting with beautiful melodies and spiritual intention to open the heart and connect with the Divine. Lorne Mallin is joined by Ottawa musical friends. Hebrew knowledge is not required – chant sheets are provided. After the chanting, enjoy tea and home-baked, triple-chocolate brownies. $10 suggested donation to help Ugandan orphans to go to school. * In Conversation With Jeanne Beker. Discover the many lives of Jeanne Beker, popular media personality, fashion maven, author and descendant of Holocaust survivors, on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Each guest will receive an autographed copy of Joy Runs Deeper, the memoir of Ms. Beker’s parents, published by the Azrieli Foundation. Jewish Family Services is holding two free workshps on issues related to aging. Tuesday, May 15, 7-9 pm is an expert panel on dementia. Tuesday, June 19, 7-8:30 pm is a session on planning for the future, including wills and powers of attorney.
