Come hear the calls

Ashrey ha'am yod'ey tru'ah - happy are the people who know the tru'ah sound - says the verse in Psalm 89. The tru'ah sound of the shofar, the ram's horn heard on Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur, is the staccato group of nine quick blasts. After the long, held tekiya, the three mournful calls of shevarim, we get the lively dance of tru'ah. The psalm also calls on our connection to tzedek u'mishpat ... hesed v'emet - justice and righteousness ... lovingkindness and truth. Come hear the calls! We take special joy in the opportunity to listen, to hear, to pay attention, and to be in community to launch the year. May our hearing of the shofar calls inspire us all to act with justice, righteousness, and true lovingkindness. Shana tova umetaka - here's to a sweet, joyful year.
