Tikkun Leyl Shavuot: Talmudic Views on Embarrassment and Calling Out

Sunday, 1 June, 2025 5 Sivan 5785

7:00 PM - 9:00 PMRoom 5

Bring a Shavuot-themed sweet treat (cheesecake and non-dairy alternatives are most welcome) and join Rabbi Liz (and folks connecting on Zoom) in Room 5 for a gathering on the eve of Shavuot, the festival celebrating the giving of Torah.
In some communities it is customary to spend all night in study, and to greet the festival morning at dawn filled with Torah!

Our evening will begin with a brief festival service, including a Yizkor memorial component. Following the service, Rabbi Liz will offer reflections on her recent trip to Israel/Palestine and lead a text study on Talmudic Views on Embarrassment and Calling Out. Demonstrators shout "busha"/shame in front of the homes of Israeli cabinet ministers when activists speak their names. What do we see in rabbinic text about this strategy, and what can we learn about calling out unethical behaviour?

At 8:00pm our program will become hybrid, joining Rabbis for Ceasefire's “Revealing Liberation: The Torah of Solidarity". Anyone wishing to register for this event independently can do so by clicking here.
