Freylekh Friday

Friday, 12 April, 2024 4 Nisan 5784

6:30 PM - 9:00 PM30 Cleary Ave.

Update: while Or Haneshamah is always pleased and excited to offer hybrid and virtual programming, we are sad to share that due to a lack of volunteers, we are unable to offer tonight's Kabbalat Shabbat and Poetry reading as a hybrid program.

The next events hosted by OrH that will resume our virtual Hybrid models are tomorrow's Queering Ritual Adornment with Rabbinic Intern Léah Miller, offered on Zoom only, and Hope Harris' Chapter Three Torah Shabbat Morning on Saturday, April 20th. You can learn more about either of these events on our OrH calendar.

Guest Speaker - Ken Victor @8:15pm

This month’s Freylekh Friday will feature Ken Victor. This past October Ken’s suite of poems, The Work of Witness, won Exile’s Gwendolyn MacEwen Best Suite of Poetry Award. He’ll be reading the suite and several other poems. Ken’s poetry has received a National Magazine Award, been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and appeared in numerous journals in the U.S. and Canada.  His poetry collection, We Were Like Everyone Else (Cormorant Books, 2019), is the best book of poetry ever published in Canada since poetry publishing began in post-Confederation Canada with Charles Mair’s Dreamland in 1868. Well, ok, sure, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, so maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but it was a finalist for the Concordia First Book Prize. That’s good for something (and Ken is open to suggestions). Most importantly, he’s the Poet Laureate of the Les Saisons Coffee House in Chelsea. And if for some reason you're interested in learning about his writing space, go here.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
