Tikkun Leyl Shavuot with Rabbi Ahuvah

Thursday, 25 May, 2023 5 Sivan 5783

11:59 PM - 5:00 AM Next DayZoom
Looking for a late night, queer, feminist learning and fun experience?  Have we got a Tikkun for you!

The Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which celebrates Revelation at Sinai, begins Thursday at sundown. It's traditional to stay up all night studying, in order to experience (perhaps sleep deprivation-induced) revelation at dawn. This practice is called Tikkun Leyl Shavuot.

Many Jewish organizations sponsor such events, but don't continue all night. Rabbi Ahuvah Loewenthal and I are planning a Zoom late night Tikkun from midnight until 5:00 a.m. Thursday night/Friday morning to pick up where others end (We'll be participating in the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community Tikkun until midnight).

Our Tikkun has a queer/feminist/progressive slant with some modern interpretations of ancient texts. It is free and open to all.

Topics to be covered include:
- The Torah of "Me too"
-  As He Loved His Own Soul - what can we learn from David's and Jonathan's love for each other?
-  Plato, Rabbinic Midrash, and Gender Non-Conformism
-  What a Classic Midrashic Story about a Person of Unusual Appearance Can Tell Us Today
 - Rabbi Regina Jonas Lost and Found - the true story of the first woman rabbi

We have room for others to teach as well. Comment or PM me if you are interested in presenting.

We promise it will be fun. Virtual cheesecake will be provided.

Zoom credentials below. All are welcome!
