Speaker: Jean Hanson

In this morning blessing, we give thanks to God for making us of the people Israel. This blessing has special meaning for Jean, because, in her case, God had to work a bit harder! At Shavuot, we read the scroll of Ruth. There are many things to be learned from Ruth, but one of the issues that arises is that of conversion. In this Schmooze 'n Learn, Jean will talk briefly about conversion to Judaism historically, and then tell her own story of conversion.

Jean Hanson was born to anti-religious Protestant parents and grew up culturally Christian, spent a few years as an atheist, a few more as a Pagan, and finally figured out that Judaism was what worked. This is probably not going to be a typical conversion story.
