Hanukkah Celebration

Saturday, 8 December, 2018 30 Kislev 5779

5:00 PM - 9:00 PMFellowship Hall of Unitarians

Come celebrate Hanukkah with Or Haneshamah! This event is open to the wider community, so invite family and friends who would like to know more about OrH. Each household should bring a menorah and candles and a potluck contribution.

Throughout the celebration we'll have activities for children, including dreidel spinning, crafts and stories.

A highlight of the evening is the Annual OrH Latke Competition with prizes, so get your latkes ON! If you’d like to enter, set aside at least three latkes in a heatable container for our judges to evaluate, and be sure to identify them with your name and the word “contest”.

For the latkes and any other potluck contributions, please list all ingredients and let kitchen staff know whether your dish should be served hot or cold. No need to contribute apple sauce or sour cream - Or Haneshamah will provide those.

It’s the annul OrH best latkes contest!  enter your latkes in one of two categories – classic or “Reconstructionist”.  Winners get a small prize and a full year of bragging rights. OrH supplies the applesauce, sour cream etc.

Everyone else, it’s a Pot luck!  Bring a family sized side dish, salad, or dessert to share.  Label your food in an allergy conscious way.

There will be games and activities for all ages set up and run by OrH youth so come out and support our future leaders as they show us all how to have fun.  We’ll keep most of it a surprise but promise you can count on dreidels.

5:30 Hanukkah songs and stories

Our Machaneh Shabbat class will kick off the circle with a song.  We’re looking for musician volunteers from the community to help us out so if anyone would like to lead or join in on a Hanukkah song circle, email Sarah at feldtastic@gmail.com

5:45 Candle Lighting

Bring your menorah!  We’ll all gather around a big table while Rabbi Liz leads up through Hanukkah prayers and maybe a story or two.  We’ll then all light our menorahs at the same time for a true festival of lights

6:00 Dig in!

Both the potluck and the latkes contest begin.  Let us know if you want to be a judge this year.  It’s a delicious gig.

6:30 Israeli Dancing

Back again by popular demand, Phil will lead the party in some traditional, easy and fun Israeli dancing!

7:00 Dancing,singing, games and fun!

The stations open up again, dancing keeps going, musicians pick up their instruments and the fun keeps going!

8:00   See you next year!

Grab your dishware, menorah, instruments, gelt, dreidel, jacket, boots and hats.  Thanks for coming and we’ll see you next year!
