Guest Speaker @8:15pm - Jennifer Cherniack "World’s Okayest Artist: A frank conversation about art, parenting, and overcoming perfectionism" (zoom and in-person)

Artist and arts administrator Jennifer Cherniack discusses her current approach to art-making: one that embraces imperfection, disruption, a “good enough” attitude, and humour. 

This is the story of an artist and arts administrator who, in 2013, made the switch to arts administrator and artist. Subtle sentence restructure, huge identity shift. And then, in 2017, I went ahead and had a baby. Another work of art, right? And now, 10 years after that shift, and nearly 7 years after becoming a parent, I’m figuring out how to do all those things at the same time in a more balanced way. I am re-learning how to be an artist that fits with my life today.

Part of that relearning comes from joining the 44.4 Mother/Artist Collective, a group that lives at the intersection of art and motherhood. We have an exhibition opening at the Ottawa Art Gallery in March. I will talk about this exhibition, as well as my latest endeavour @the52in2project, where I made one thing a week for the entire year (52 weeks) during my kid Sybil’s TV time (2 hours) on weekends. Some of the work is good, some bad, but it all leads somewhere.
