* The Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University invites you to an ‘Evening of Inspiration’ to launch the Ottawa Scholarship Fund. Sunday, April 29, 7pm at the Canada Science and Technology Museum. Hear from a leading brain researcher, Prof. Amir Amedi on "How Experience and Imagination Share our Brain," and listen to four of Hebrew University's most accomplished students. The Ottawa Scholarship Fund will benefit Hebrew U students doing an extrended amount of military service. Emcee Lawrence Wall. Tickets $45. * Lorne Mallin's monthly Chanting and Chocolate gathering at Temple Israel takes place on Monday, April 30, 7:30-9pm. Join in sacred Hebrew chanting with beautiful melodies and spiritual intention to open the heart and connect with the Divine. Lorne Mallin is joined by Ottawa musical friends. Hebrew knowledge is not required – chant sheets are provided. After the chanting, enjoy tea and home-baked, triple-chocolate brownies. $10 suggested donation to help Ugandan orphans to go to school. Community Opportunities
JFS Volunteers Needed. Jewish Family Services has the following volunteer opportunities:
- Client with some mobility issues is looking for a friendly visitor to spend time together working in her garden every week or two. JFS neighbourhood. Female preferred.
- Newcomer to Ottawa (Alta Vista area) is looking for a female companion to join her at AJA 50+ events and other events/outings. Companion to provide transportation. Client uses a walker.
- Elderly client who is visually and hearing impaired needs a visitor for about 45 min-1 hr every 2-3 weeks, at his home on Merivale Rd. Communication will need to be in writing, or by typing on your laptop in large print.
