Shabbat Dinner. Lorne Mallin hosts a warm and tuneful Shabbat potluck dinner at his Sandy Hill Home on Friday, April 20 at 6:30pm. Lorne hosts these Shabbats on the 3rd Friday of every month. Also, be sure to mark your calendars for Lorne’s monthly Chanting and Chocolate gathering at Temple Israel on Monday, April 30, 7:30-9pm. Join in sacred Hebrew chanting with beautiful melodies and spiritual intention to open the heart and connect with the Divine. Lorne Mallin is joined by Ottawa musical friends. Hebrew knowledge is not required – chant sheets are provided. After the chanting, enjoy tea and home-baked, triple-chocolate brownies. $10 suggested donation to help Ugandan orphans to go to school. Experience the moving story of Czech-born Holocaust survivor David Moskovic through video testimonial, followed by a talk on “The Enduring Importance of Eyewitness Accounts” by Professor Jennifer Evans and a Q&A session with Mr. Moskovic and Professor Evans. Photographing the Posthumous Landscape in Western Ukraine. Sunday, April 22, 10:30 am – noon. Photographing the Posthumous Landscape in Western Ukraine with Photographer/Filmmaker David Kaufman. In 2016 Kaufman took a journey through western Ukraine, photographing synagogues, cemeteries, and former Jewish neighbourhoods in Lviv (Lvov), Chernivtsi (Czernowitz), and 18 small cities and towns in the region. In this talk, illustrated with photographic projections, Kaufman will discuss the precarious state of Jewish material culture in a part of the world that has largely forgotten about its illustrious Jewish past. JFS Volunteers Needed. Jewish Family Services has the following volunteer opportunities:
- Client with some mobility issues is looking for a friendly visitor to spend time together working in her garden every week or two. JFS neighbourhood. Female preferred.
- Newcomer to Ottawa (Alta Vista area) is looking for a female companion to join her at AJA 50+ events and other events/outings. Companion to provide transportation. Client uses a walker.
- Elderly client who is visually and hearing impaired needs a visitor for about 45 min-1 hr every 2-3 weeks, at his home on Merivale Rd. Communication will need to be in writing, or by typing on your laptop in large print.

The Developing Future Leaders program at The Zelikovitz Centre funds student interns to develop leadership skills through work placements in Partner Agencies in the Jewish Community. The program is funded by a private donation to the Zelikovitz Centre, and is a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa. Journey to Remember: Educational adult trip to Berlin, Poland, Israel with Holocaust survivor, guides. Join a "Journey to Remember" - a "March-of-the-Living" style trip for adults. Organized by Jewish community members, Sharon & David Appotive, Randi & Ian Sherman, Bonnie & Bruce Engel, and Cybele & Lyon Hamburg, you are invited to share a moving experience and a stimulating itinerary in the company of a Holocaust survivor, engaging guides and Ottawa's Rabbi Idan Scher - while enjoying delicious local cuisine and lovely boutique hotel accommodations. The Journey begins in Berlin, proceeds to Poland and ends in Israel. It is a 17-day trip, taking place this October 2018, with very limited space available.
