* Yom HaShoah Commemoration Ceremony, Wednesday, April 11, 7 - 9 pm. Commemorate the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. The evening will include a candle-lighting ceremony and a performance of the "The Mitzvah Project." "The Mitzvah Project" stars Roger Grunwald and is co-authored and directed by Annie McGreevey. * "The MS St. Louis and the Refugee Crisis." Thursday, April 12, 7:30 - 9 pm, Barney Danson Theatre, Canadian War Museum. Free lecture on the occasion of Yom HaShoah, by Dr. Diane Afoumado of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington. Fleeing Nazi persecution in 1939, more than 900 Jewish refugees boarded the German ocean liner St. Louis. They expected to find a safe haven across the Atlantic -- instead, they were denied entry to Cuba, then the United States and, finally, Canada. The exiles returned to Europe, where many were killed in the Holocaust. * An Evening with Survivor David Moskovic. Thursday, April 26, 7 - 9 pm, Barney Danson Theatre at the Canadian War Museum. Experience the moving story of Czech-born Holocaust survivor David Moskovic through video testimonial, followed by a talk on “The Enduring Importance of Eyewitness Accounts” by Professor Jennifer Evans and a Q&A session with Mr. Moskovic and Professor Evans. * Photographing the Posthumous Landscape in Western Ukraine. Sunday, April 22, 10:30 am – noon. Photographing the Posthumous Landscape in Western Ukraine with Photographer/Filmmaker David Kaufman. In 2016 Kaufman took a journey through western Ukraine, photographing synagogues, cemeteries, and former Jewish neighbourhoods in Lviv (Lvov), Chernivtsi (Czernowitz), and 18 small cities and towns in the region. In this talk, illustrated with photographic projections, Kaufman will discuss the precarious state of Jewish material culture in a part of the world that has largely forgotten about its illustrious Jewish past. Opportunity for university students. The Developing Future Leaders program at The Zelikovitz Centre funds student interns to develop leadership skills through work placements in Partner Agencies in the Jewish Community. The program is funded by a private donation to the Zelikovitz Centre, and is a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa. As a university / community partnership, The Developing Future Leaders program strives to arrange placements best suited to the skills that the student would like to develop and according to the availability of suitable placements with partner agencies.

The scholarship, valued at approximately $15,000, is granted each year to support the studies of a member of the Ottawa Jewish community who is between the ages of 18 and 30, has displayed leadership qualities, academic excellence and has an interest in the Jewish community. Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation Scholarship available! The Ilana and Steven Rubin Scholarship is valued at $1,800 and is aimed to help students who wish to attend a Canadian or Israeli post-secondary institution. Students applying for the scholarship must be graduating from high school this year with at least a B average. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need through qualification for the Ontario Student Assistance Program or equivalent. The application deadline is April 13.
