Lorne hosts these Shabbats on the 3rd Friday of every month. Bring a veggie or dairy dish to share and $5 for the support of five Abayudaya Jewish orphans in Uganda. Join in sacred Hebrew chanting with beautiful melodies and spiritual intentiona to open the heart and connect with the Divine. Lorne Mallin is joined by Ottawa musical friends. Hebrew knowledge is not required – chant sheets are provided. Recital by Israeli Sharett Scholarship Recipient, Shulamit Sarid, cellist from Jerusalem and piano accompanist Stephanie Tang. Sunday afternoon October 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Freiman Hall, University of Ottawa, 610 Cumberland. They will perform works by Bach, Debussy, Ravel and Shostakovich. Proceeds from the event will go to support the Sharett Scholarship Program, an AICF/CICF funded program. Book Launch of “A Mercedes in the Sand” a novel by Leon Levit, Monday evening October 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street. P. Elwood Enns, Ph.D. describes the book as “A beautiful and colourful account of life in Germany and Palestine.” The evening is being sponsored by Ruth and Arnon Miller, Canada-Israel Cultural Foundation, the Lowy Collection and Friends of the Library and Archives Canada. The Zelikovitz Centre at Carleton University will host the exhibit: Canadian Jewish Experience, in the “South Wing Hall” of the MacOdrum library at Carleton Univeristy, October 2 - 31, 2017. The purpose of this exhibit is to share with all Canadians, Jewish aspects of Canada’s story through a special bilingual nine panel exhibition, a website, and special speakers.
