Yom Kippur Afternoon Service

September 21, 2026 - September 22, 2026
4:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Where

Worship Hall and Zoom
30 Cleary Ave., Ottawa, Ontario, K2A 4A1

4:30 pm MINCHAH

Our creative and meaningful afternoon begins with Jonah with Jenny – a chiasmic journey through the belly of the whale. Experience the Book of Jonah through the lens of Bibliodrama, hear the text chanted in Hebrew and in English, learn the meaning of “chiasm” and dive into this whale of a tale about repentance.

5:15 pm AVODAH

We continue with our alternative approach to the Avodah service, traditionally devoted to recalling the services of the ancient temples. Come hear our member Sarah Waisvisz discuss What is left in the wake of the Third Temple, a frank exploration of our historical moment.

6:00 pm YIZKOR

After a musical interlude in honour of Martyrology, we continue with Yizkor, our prayerful gathering of remembrance through text, song, and ritual, featuring a personal reflection from our member Inger Weibust.

6:30 pm NEILAH

As the shadows lengthen and the day of prayer and fasting draws to a close, we draw ourselves to the open gate of the ark, and to one last opportunity to join our personal and collective teshuvah before the final blasts of the shofar.

Following Havdallah and motzi in the sanctuary, all are welcome to the communal break-fast in the social hall.
